The information and communications technology (ICT) sector is poised for aggressive growth projected for the foreseeable future. The ICT M&A environment is approaching deal volumes last seen in the Dot Com era as corporates continue to seek strategic acquisitions to achieve ambitious growth plans. The need for digital transformation and greater efficiency in key business processes continues to shape the market and drive M&A activity. Investment in innovation accelerators will continue to outpace investment in traditional ICT categories, with strong growth predicted around Cognitive AI, Cloud technologies, Internet-of-Things, Mobile Technologies and Software as a Service (SaaS). Some of these technologies are still at an early stage of evolution, but will be more important over the long term as drivers for M&A in the ICT sector.
